Bond University Workplace Agreement

Professor Brailsford said he wanted to establish a three-track link between academic research, students and industry. Before academic and professional employees feel too comfortable, remember that a company agreement is not worth the paper on which it is written, unless it is implemented in a timely manner and in a manner consistent with the spirit and intent in which it was negotiated. Meanwhile, NTEU was concerned to learn that a number of employees still receive a higher education expense allowance at 50% of their total workload. According to the new agreement (see clause 18.14), 40:40:20 remains the standard workload model for staff in the teaching and research family, and no employee can be forced to have a teaching load of 50% or more (60% in the old agreement) without explicit agreement. Bond is one of the smallest universities in the country with fewer than 5,000 students and Professor Brailsford said he didn`t want it to be a big university. It aims for a maximum size of 10,000 to 15,000 to keep the ratio between employees and students very low. Bond has an employee up to 10 students. Almost none of his aides are members of the National Tertiary Education Union, but Professor Brailsford said they receive a base salary similar to an academic in the group of eight, plus a pool of one-in-all-in bonuses. Long-time teachers at the university receive a seniority bonus. This authorization was an astonishing result for macquarie NTEU Branch and resulted in the academic and professional staff agreements being synchronized again, as they expire on December 31, 2021. It is important that, in the next round of negotiations between companies, negotiations between academic and professional staff are unified and that we renegotiate together.

The agreements on academic and professional staff companies provide for both the creation of an Academic Committee (ASIC) and a Professional Staff Advisory Committee (PSIC). These committees shall be composed equally of trade union and management representatives and shall be responsible for the ongoing monitoring and implementation of the provisions of the Agreement. . . .
